apparently a classic, smooth five spoke wheel and a cowl hood are just way too crazy for them, though.
ahhhwtf.

Camaros are not muscle cars?!?!
Technically, no they are not. Camaros are pony cars. Pony cars were sporty versions of economy cars, whereas the muscle cars like the GTO were based on mid sized cars.
My distintion though is the difference between a car like a Camaro, Corvette Mustang Chevelle GTO etc, and a device used for transportation. To me talking about Subarus Toyotas etc is like talking about refrigerators or stoves.

I think they just have a crush on SW's cars. I don't blame them, so do I. :)

The funny thing is how they say the cowl hood is too big, yet they drive "transpotation appliances" ( I like that) with a scoop that looks like it should be outside a post office to drop mail in.:screwy:

I think WRX's are bad a**. I came very close to getting one for my daily driver, and I still like them a lot. They're unarguably one of the top 5 performance-for-the-dollar cars you can buy. Granted, any classic american car is always gonna outweigh them in the image / value / performance (hopefully) / etc. categories; but I think they're a great buy for everyday transportation and the occasional trip to the track. AWD is sweet...just my .02

I take a Nissan Sentra/Maxima anyday, WRX's are for the 26 and under brand of performance driver, I never driven one but I have sat in one and love the seats, there awsome, but not my type of flashy winged scooped daily driver,

I dunno, I think the WRX/STi is in incredible car and deserves the respect it's earned in countless wins in rally racing around the world. I think they actually appeal to the over 22 year old crowd, especially compared to the Honda's and fart can exhausts. The subbies don't typically go the ricer route, but rather, the racer route. Big brakes, sticky tires, functional scoops (there's an intercooler under there) and spoilers, etc. Far more technically advanced than most anything else on the road under $40K. Water mist cooling for the intercooler, switchable center diff, Brembo's, the list goes on. Go drive an STi, and tell me you still think it's a 'transportation appliance'. They are sharp tools, and will bite you in the ass if you don't drive it accordingly.
They deserve some respect. I got owned by and STi in my '69 and I had well over 400hp and 4:56 gears. He pulled on me so hard after 100mph I thought I busted something. ;)

Yes they are good transportation appliances.
Yes, a WRX couldn't touch our cars in the "cool factor". Yes, our cars will always have higher overall value. Yes, the WRX is not the most stylish car on the road, and does appeal mainly to a younger crowd.
However, there are more than a few WRX's that would own the majority of the cars on this board in just about any performance test you can think of. They may not fit everyone's tastes, but I think they're respectable for their performance and what they can do for $25k.

Well said Deepblue.
While the cars look stupid. Its one of the few cars that actually use all of those add-ons. Every part of those cars is about function. The huge fin, the scoop on the hood etc. Does it look goofy? Who cares. Those cars work. And it's performance is what many of our guys have spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to get CLOSE to. And those cars came that way.

I too once had a WRX, did everything possible to it, put down 296whp to all four wheels, ran a 12.8 at 106mph. But that was just about the limit i could get it to on pump gas. Sunk some dough into that car! I eventually sold it while it was still in one peice, the transmissions in those things are like glass.
I was going to buy an EVO, but decided against it, because I would just throw stupid amounts of money into that car as well, but be rewarded far greater with it!
I used to hang out on those message boards too, those guys over there are great! If you have some spare time, you should check out the Off Topic forum!!!!

Yea I used to frequent one of the Scooby boards back when I was really into them, and for the most part, the people there were very inormative and agreeable, much like they are here. It wasn't like a ricer civic board with lots of bashing on each other and countless discussions about "naaawwwws".

I have to admit that although I wouldn't be caught riding in a WRX, I ALWAYS end up chasing them around the track.

Yea, at a track day back in November, I got my a** handed to me by more than one STi. Granted, I'm sure the driving had something to do with that since it was my first time to the track. :nopity:

my dd is a 04 wrx or transportation appliance LOL, i love this car. for the money i paid and never working on it (except maintenance) it can perform better than most older muscle cars i see driving around ie, stop, get better gas milage, not to mention that it takes great turns. i totally agree that it is nowhere near as goodlooking as a muscle car but it does perform. just my .02

I would say the Z28's would be pony cars and the COPOs, Yenkos, big block SS's, would be muscle cars.
Unless the pony/muscle designation refers to body size only.
