We are building a Pro Touring 69 Eliminator Clone and it would be interest to see some other projects.
Unfortunately these beautiful cars are not so popular in the Pro Touring world so lets bring those few projects here and make publicity.:attn:

I will be watching this also. I love the Cougars. Had a chance to pick one up a few years ago but it was a pile. Torque boxes were shot and the floor and trunk were aluminum sheet, vinyl top... Need I say more?
If it was to happen today I would probably jump on it...

Our very own, Chris Campbell, tech editor for Popular Hot Rodding is building a wicked Cougar as we speak. I'll see if he's willing to post a build thread.

Very nice. If you can get the stance to match on the real cat you'll nail it.

My father has a '69 XR-7, that he has been letting rust away in a barn. I keep telling him he needs to be taken out and flogged, then shot for alowing such a beautiful car to just rust away.

I've got an original 69 cougar, 351W, standard model.
I love the original look, especially the eliminator styling, but am considering going the pro-touring way for various reasons.
One... The 15" tires with white lettering are getting harder and harder to find in my country, as it has to be imported and our exchange rate is quite steep. Going 17 or 18 inch makes the tire selection so much easier.
Two... the cougar brakes are really bad, even with the standard engine I've had a few close calls when trying to stop quickly.
Three... those rear leaf springs make the wheels spin for nothing.

Going to start project early next year, not sure about colour scheme yet, might try rendering first after wheel selection.

not the subject I was thinking, but still interesting! Would be cool to see more of these cars built up, as they have a great platform and a more unique look than the mustangs.

Something about the character of track car just monopolizes my attention--it's all business. That's the coolest Cougar I've seen in some time. My brother had a '67 that got sandwiched on the freeway...

not quite G-machine status, but here is my car as it sits now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJFIwadYtKc

Waiting on the DSE aluma-frame to show up and then the transformation will begin. The car will then go from there into the paint shop to become one solid color, it will be all orange instead of the orange/silver two tone. finish it off with 18" fikse (money permitting a maier panhard will go in the back to help out for now)and just get her back on the road, everything else will come later( having a kid now kind of changes the balance in the car fund)

The O.P. had asked where to buy parts, most body parts aren't re-produced so finding good used stuff is where its at. There are some mail order companies that handle mustang stuff and have compiled all the cross over stuff into a Cougar catalog. auto krafters, California mustang just to name a few. As someone else mentioned Don Rush is a good source as well. also look at rocketman classic cougar innovations, and kens classic cougars(he is doing quarter panel patches now)if you are not on mercury cougar.net I would do so so that you may network with other cougar buffs to help you find parts!

Someone else mentioned the Max effort cougar, pictures do it NO justice! Cortex is about 15 min from me and I got to go check it out, and that thing is a legit race car! the flare work Kertz did is just fabulous and it had finally answered this question I had in my head about just extending the factory looking flare so its more subtle and man does it work!
