View Full Version : Which clutch slave cylinder is preferred?

I plan to convert "Dust Off" from a mechanical clutch linkage to hydraulic. I see two options for the slave cylinder. One is the internal throw out bearing type the other is an externally mounted push type slave cylinder. The internal TO bearing looks like a cleaner design but I like the idea of the external push type cylinder from a purely maintenance point of view. I have no desire to remove the transmission if the slave starts to leak. In addition, I can buy an external slave cylinder and master cylinder for less than the cost of the internal TO bearing style. I'm just curious what others have done.

What transmission are you working with?

I am using and internal style slave. You are right with respect to any potential issues that come up. I had a o-ring failure that that necessitated the removal of the transmission to fix the problem. However, the internal slave is a clean solution and eliminates the fork.
