The last moderately cammed LS, T56 car I had was a 3:73 and if IIRC it cruised nicely at 65mph at about 1600rpm.

I'm trying to pick a gear for the 9 inch in my El Camino and wondering what guys run and why. The 3:73 was good, but I reckon I could go lower, say 3:9, 4:11 or maybe even slightly higher in the 4's.

This one will have a more aggressive cam and my priorities are 1. Performance 2. Driveability 3. Mileage, but also don't want to go overkill and spend all my time shifting!

I ran both 3.73 and 4.10 in my heads/cam LS1 camaro. My cam is 228/232 595/598 112. The 410 def keeps the motor in the powerband better than the 373. On larger cube motor with more torque the 373 would probably be fine. 390 may be a good compromise. At 80 mph im turning about 2100. Scott

Thanks for that, that's pretty much exactly what I wanted to know!
