I picked up a 12 bolt that I plan to install in my dads 69 camaro. its a 300hp driver that will never see track use.
The 12 bolt I picked up has either moser or strange external c-clip eliminators ,they are billet with a built in bearing.
I have not seen these before and all of my cars have internal big bearings and c- clip retainers .
Are these ok for the car? I looked them up and the parts bolth say race use only, why could they not be used on a street car?

They tend to leak. I recently used longer bolts with nuts as the bolts tended to work loose in the aluminum housings.

They do tend to leak and supposedly do not handle side loading very well (meant for drag racing use).

I havent taken it apart yet to look at it ,I wounder if it could be changed back to stock .I would think the moser axles do not have the factory c -clip groves or bearing diameters.
I would bring it to the only chassies shop around and have them install the big bearings ends and axle retainers but I have done it 3 times and they charge way too much (between $800-$1,200.)and take months to do it all 3 rears leaked too 1 rear ate its own ring and pinion so I dont trust them much.

You could have Ford 9" ends welded on.

Unless you have the skills to weld the ends on your self, Wasted coin, want a 9" buy a 9". After paying someone to weld on ford ends and the cost of custom axles your going to be out quite a few hundred bucks...learn from my mistake.

I suggest since someone already cut the axle housing, buy the strange street kit.

I screwed myself on this one... I took the 12 bolt apart this morning.
the c-clips are now the least of my problems,The rear is from a 66-69 chevelle and knew I would need to cut and weld brackets and go back to the stcock style ends..no big problem.
the problem is its a full drag race rear with a strange spool, big mte 26 spline axles,4:11 richmond gears..so its not worth it to bring it back to stock.
Buying a new rear is out of the question, its my dads car and did not even want me to put the 12 bolt I bought in,all the expence is on me and I just ordered new leafs (the single leafs were junk) and still need a rear disc kit.
I have to keep this camaro a resto mod that can be returned to stock.
Hopefully I can find someone that has another rear to swap with.

Strange has a new C clip eliminator kit that uses a taper bearing instead of a ball bearing better suited for street and corners as well as dual seals. So no need to go back to stock ends for that.

Used posi's show up for sale and even new an Eaton can be gotten for $400. No 12 bolt ever had 26 spline axles all were 30. even GM 10 bolts were 28 spline. So you might recount.

It's worth $500-700 mininum for a core so might be better to sell it to a drag racing Chevelle guy.

I think I found a guy to swap his 74 nova 10 bolt posi with 3:73..hope the leaf pads are in the same location as the 69.

I want to put a 12 bolt in my 69 Camaro and I now have a 10 bolt with an Eaton posi w/ 3.08 gears. You probably would want to change the gears, but the rest is in great shape. The posi has less than 1000 miles on it. I have a 12 bolt lined up already.
