Ok, I'm baffled! I bought a new pinion yoke and it came with a new nut. The nut that came off the pinion was 7/8" and was removed with a 1-1/4" socket.

I went to install the new nut and its the right thread but too big for the 1-1/4" socket. I went up to 1-5/16" and there was slop. Tried 32mm and too small....tired 33mm and again some slop.

What size is this thing???? I'm so confused!

My dorman replacement nut is slightly too big for 1-1/4" too...I don't get it

This nut measures at 1.285"...I need a 32.5mm socket???

I'm assuming that this is for the 8.5 10 bolt. Go to GM and get a new nut from them. They still produce these rear ends for the 1500 trucks, so the nuts are still available from them. The cheaper installation kits and auto parts stores use a cheaper nut, probably from China. If you ever have to get an installation kit get a good one from DTS, Tom's Differentials or Randy's Ring & Pinion. Don't use Ratech stuff.

Thanks, do you know the part #? I'm assuming it will be for a 8.6 10 bolt?

I bought one from DTS, probably going to cancel my order and buy from Drivetrain america...

Whats up with DTS $5.00 handing charge?!?!? A $3.00 nut turned into $20!

That's why you should have just gone down to your local Chevy store...

GM nut is pn-88891763 . ( $5.09 retail ) .
Just drive by a dealer and pick one up ..

The original 1979 pn was 1260823 ,
that change to pn - 9783762 ,
which changed to pn- 88891763

GM Parts Direct charges an order processing fee of around ( $9 ?? ) , plus a lot for freight ..

Plus , on this item , their minimum buy is a quantity of 5 ..

Well, that is good to know....dang shame they turn a $2 part into something expensive.

I am sorry, some parts just need to be sourced locally. If one dealer doesn't give you a good price, call around. I fail to see how any dealer can possibly ask $20 for a part that has a list price of just over 5 bucks. Either the part was not looked up properly, or the dealer was quoting a price for 5 nuts.
