I was talking to a buddy at work that is working on a Chevelle wagon that he wants to use as a family vacation hauler/cruiser.......... basically in search of something cooler than his Explorer to take trips in.

I know GM used a lot of rather long single piece drive shafts but other brands and GM on some models use two piece units.

I have heard that 2 piece shafts are supposed to be better at damping vibration which is why some OE applications use them, is this true?

Are there any inherent failure points or weaknesses related to 1 or 2 piece?

I have never priced a 2 piece set up, are they more or less expensive than a traditional shaft?

Anyone know any good resources for fabbing the center bridge/bearing section?

The end goal is to have a nice riding car. It is full weight and full featured riding and will ride on air bags if that makes any difference.

My 2000 Dakota R/T club cab has a one-piece aluminum drive. It is about 3.5-4" in diameter, big ole driveshaft. That is with a 130" wheelbase, so it shouldn't be an issue for a Chevelle wagon. I personally don't like 2-piece ones, just more parts to work with and replace.
