Brett, I realize you've been busy with other projects, but I am hope to see this thread continue. I'm curious what springs you used and if/how you were able to get enough bump travel out of the shocks. I'd also like to see what modifications you made to the UCAs.

Clint, we cut a full coil off of my Hotchkis springs and used them. For the time being we spaced the shock off of the LCA using 1" spacers; my plan is to eventually run coilovers.

I'll let Brett chime in with what exactly he did to the upper arms.

Brett,

I'm proceeding with the mods right now, do you have any pictures of the uca's?

Thanks again!!

this brings back the old days...looks good brett. did you have to go up into the floor much? Its hard to convince an owner that you have to cut up the floor to get the springs right. I think theres more room in Nova's than 69 Camaro's.

I like to shave off a little poly from the rear so you get more bite on the sleeve.

BTW we're gonna need a few sets of them wheel wells. 68 and 69 available right?

Old days? Not much over a year ago.

Looking good Bret.

He didn't have too much fuss from the owner... ;)

Speaking of which, I need to buy some fiberglass and make an appointment!

Reference back to the Herb Adam's days...with the spring pocket modification(adding some forward bite)

You can see the modifications I did to the ball joint area.

I really like what you did here around the ball joint. How did you bend that U-shaped strap that's going around the BJ?

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was picturing. It looks like you got a really good fit up so I wasn't sure if it was just careful bending or if you had a more elaborate method. I think what we're seeing here is just good old fashion skill :smoke: Did you press out the balljoint prior to welding?

Unfortunately not. :guilty:

I just finished repairing the brakes since their demise at Button Willow in September. What I though was just a cracked rear brake hose turned into so much more.

I was inspecting everything when I went to install the new rear brake hoses and noticed I lost the friction material on two of the rear pads (one on either side). Uh oh... So I pulled the calipers only to find that I destroyed both rear caliper's pistons; one was mushroomed, and the other had indentations where the pad sits. Time for new calipers.

With new calipers, pads, hoses, and turned rotors in hand I assembled the system; only to find that the rear brakes weren't releasing... By process of elimination we found the culprit, the center rear brake hose; something had sluffed off inside the hose and was acting as a flap, fluid passing in, but not out. Finally after replacing that hose the brakes work as they should! :)

So it looks like the center hose failed, causing the calipers to not release, which overheated the stock pads, sluffed two friction materials, which overheated the pistons and hoses causing the one hose to crack, shich sprayed fluid on the hot everything, which caught on fire.
:nopity:

This weekend it gets a good once over and next Thursday I'm competing in the Socal Challenge. Wish me luck!:2nd:

Great job! Starting a 72 Nova project myself and will use some of these tips!
