Not really sure but Ill give a poke. The engines crank shaft is usually in the center of a car if its a V8 engine. So with rearguards to the suspension and mainly the rear drive line it has to do with where the drive shaft enters the rear gears. Some (most if not all) rear gears are offset. The pinion gear is on center with the crankshaft. But the ring gear is off center due to the whole way a ring and pinion gear set is. Not sure if thats what you were looking for. But I took a stab. JR
