I just swapped out my 3:73 gears for a new set of Motive gears becouse the old set had a bad whine at 30 - 40 mph this is a new moser 12 bolt rearend that has 4000 miles. The new gears are alot quieter although I get a slight whine at 40-50 but you have to listen for it I have a .006 -.007 backlash and what appears to me to be a good pattern. The new gears only have about 150 miles on them the question is due I take it apart and try to get rid of the slight whine or am I chasing something that I cant fix?

That picture only shows the coast side. I need to see the drive side too. The coast side looks like the pinion needs to go a little deeper, but I can't say for sure until I see the drive side.

Sorry, I missed that. If it were me I would try increasing the backlash a little. Try about .009 at the tightest point. check the pattern again and post pictures.

I will do that if the rearend did not have the slight whine would you leave it alone? Is it the pattern that I am trying to correct or the slight whine or both?

I'm interested in getting the pattern looking a little better. That may or may not correct the whine. Let's hope for the best.
