What 4x6 plate speakers are you using in your 1st gen Camaro/Firebird?? Am curious how good they sound.

Don't do it man.

I ran the 4 X 6 Pioneer that came in the kick panels I added to my '68 Bird.

I tried to tell my builder that they would not be able to deal with the power from the amp, but he said what do we have to loose?

Now I can tell you for sure they will clip if you overdrive them and they get really smelly after only a couple weeks.

Now I am replacing them with these

screamin' performance

They are pricey, but learn from me. I now have perfectly good $200.00 kick panels that look repro, but have zorched speakers that are going on the swap meet pile. So how much did it cost me? More than it should have.

He is replacing them for free labor, but I don't have my car to drive AGAIN! He wanted to use the Rod Doors covered in leather, but even though they are only $89.00 they are not even close to quality or the speaker location/placement of the screamin' performance.

Good thing is I can match the set of 6.5 inch JL Audio components in the rear deck. It will sound awesome as it should have the first time I gave him my speaker selections. I wanted 6.5" and he said it won't work.

If you have to use these

Although good speaker vendors, from what I am told there is no such thing as a good 4 X 6 speaker.

Good luck whatever your choice.

The Kappa's are my first choice for a 4x6. I plan to use all Infinity Kappa's for my speakers. I live near the folks at Screaming performance. I may runup there and check out their panels in person next week.

Since my car is a vert I plan on using several speakers. I'm thinking of this setup:

A pair of Kappa 59.9i 5 1/4 speakers in the stock location.

Either the Kappa 462.9cfp 4x6 plates or Kappa 60.9CS in the kicks.

Also, possibly, another set of Kappa 60.9CS in the doors.

Being a vert and pro street car I have no back seat or package tray. So I plan to build a custom divider in the back for either a pair of Kappa 693.9i, 692.9i 6x9s, or a pair of yet to be determined 8/10" subs.

Also still looking at amps and head units. My current issue to resolve are the dash and kick panel speakers since they need to be done while the interior is still disassembled.

I have a coupe 68 and I found I needed more balance in the front. I was front weak with the 4 x 6's. Not that pioneer is better than the Kappa, far from it. Now you have a ragtop. That is going to need even more from what I heard. Really happy to be getting rid of the pioneer. At no time did I ever think this was a good idea even though it saved cash (or so I thought at the time).

I am driving (2) of these bad boys so needing more front is what I expected.

I will let you know how it sounds with the component 6.5's in the kicks. I had 5's in the doors before I changed from parchment to black. So it will work, I just wasn't crazy about the looks. With a ragtop I think more is better, but that thought process has failed me in the past.

I have Infinity Kappa 4 x 6 plates in the stock kick panel locations using stock grilles. As noted above, they do not handle very much power. They act more like as a filler. I can't run the custom panels or else I would use them in a heartbeat.

Your system will sound awesome.

We have 6.5 BP in the kick panels and rear deck of my 68 with JL amps and it sounds great. We also added a 10" JL WS6 in the rear deck and the system gets tons of compliments on sound.

I love it !

Sounds great playing my Eighties hair rock. :git:

The 4x6 kappas will handle alot of power actually, they just need to crossed over at the right spot not too play so low that they distort. They will not play as low as a 5.25 or a 6.5 but they will get loud. Ive built a couple of sound competition cars using that exact speaker and they perform very well. You just wont get any midbass from them.

So having them in the kicks and 5.25s and 6.5s in the dash/doors should make up for front mid base? Where/how do you recommend to cut out the low end on these ???

If you have an amplifier there should be a low/high pass crossover on the amplifier if not you can put a capacitor in line of the positive wire to cut the frequency. Ill have to look up the right capacitor, once I find it I will edit the post with the info.

True they do have decent mid-bass. It's the really low bass you need to filter out with these.

Other option, run a 4" component set in a 4 x 6 plate. MB Quart made the adapter plates at one time, I am sure others do as well.

I got the car back last night.

Frickin Awesome. Great product Brian! Scuffed and painted to match the rest of the dash. I just couldn't see the leather in the footwells.

Really rounds the front out. I was weak in the front before. I don't think I need to mess with speakers in the dash anymore.

I have a grill that keeps coming off with the vibration, but some electrical tape over the peg should help get that tighter connection.

This is the sound I was looking for. Just banging, couldn't be happier. I am on strict instructions to turn down the tunes before I drive into the neighborhood.

Anyone considering speakers in kick panels should not hesitate using the Screamin Performance product. The other manufacturer's placement would put the speaker right in the way. Brian's doesn't. Worth the extra coin. No regrets!
