i just recently came into posseesion of a 1972 nova. it has been covered in a barn since 1980. it still has the 1980 inspection sticker and vintage license plate. has oil change stickers on the door from exxon in the late 70's. the car is ver very solid for its age. now the car is a 6cyl bench seat 3 on the tree. everything i mean everything is there all original down to the engine stickers and tires. chrome is still in great shape even has the dog dish style hubcaps on it. very little rust inner fender from where battery was, drivers front fender from were the sun beamed through the barn and the hood and trunk have some small spots.. other than that its all surface that is little to none.. the green paint still has a shine. given it was no rare car. what is the value of such a car that is so in tact and solid.. has 22k original miles and hasnt seen the road since 79. the interior just needs to be cleaned and headliner replaced and it would be near perfect. just wanting to see what route to take sell it liek it is.... restore it back to stock or what.. i just couldnt belive how solid and intact it was . we had to tear the barn down to get to it bc the trees had grown so high around it.

Really a bunch of ways you can go with this. Solid car to start a build, or solid original car. They are only virgin once, but its not that crazy rare a car. I'd start asking in the Nova forums. It might be a cool novelty to leave it exactly like it is and show it as a barn find. That would be cool.

sounds like a great barn find, but worth anything? IDK, probably asking around here is the wrong place. most everyone here is going to say its a nice start for a project, LS1, speed tech, wheels, yadda, yadda, yadda...
it would be a nice item to clean up (not restore) and show as a survivor if you're into that sort of thing (me, I'd rather not sit around at a car show in my lawn chair all day answering stupid questions)
for a project, EVERYTHING needs to be changed; it's got drum non power brakes all around, right? and monoleafs, no sway bars.
really, what would be the point of starting w/ it for a project when you will be replacing 75% or more of the car?
if it was me, I'd clean it up, lower it (if it hasn't sagged enough yet), put an electronic dizzy on it and put some nice period correct wheels on it and drive it.
these do have a special place in my heart; my mom had a '70 coupe (230ci, powerglide, red/ w black roof, lots of chrome) from new, but my brother got it in '79, I got it in '91 or so, so it went through all the changes, swaps, cut ups, paint jobs and fixes you could think of. looking back, I would love to have it the original way my parents had it.

yeah i knew it wasnt a rare car but i knew it would be a great starting startin point for a resto or pro-touring build since the car doesnt have cancer and is all there

Looks great but probably has more rot than you think. My 67 was clean as hell and I still wound up replacing a bunch of it. These things like to destroy themselves from the inside out.

Me, I'd hot rod it.

and u may be right but ive had the car on a lift and pulled back the vinyl on the floor and it didnt have any signs of rot.. given if you were making it perfect then u would want to replace more but i also know the car has been covered and out of the weather for the past 30 years

judging by the rust along the left quarter I am sure there are a few rust holes in that back window channel,

In this case low milage doesn't mean much.

I'd PT it out.

sell it to finch and see what he can do with it.

Not the next body style I'd go with but I still like it, great barn find! It would be cool to PT that or something like that out keeping the entire exterior patina and original and trying not to touch a thing. Underneath, the engine, drivetrain, and wheels give it the treatment... deadly sleeper.

Good luck selling it. I suspect it'll sell easy if you have a fair price.

Are you sure that is not a repaint? I did not think they offered that shade of green....it is hard to tell in the pic. someone painted the rim centers to match.

Love that body style. I am thinking PT on that one as well.

you're only like 1 1/2 hrs from my in-laws, wish I had a garage for a project like this!

looks stock, think dog dish caps. Typical for a base 6 cyl. Would make a cool Yenko clone build.

Remember you'll have to post a price. I see them in this condition around the 1500-2k range. Running?
