On my 86 C10 short bed, the front track with is about 1.5" wider than the rear. All C10's were setup like this, they came with rear-ends that were narrow. So since my wheel/tire setup is the same all around, the front wheel sticks out .75 on each side.

What effect handling wise does this have, if any?

I can't speak to it for certain, but I believe they were built that way to reduce turn radius. The same idea is even more prevalent/obvious on some newer GM 4x4 stuff.

Almost all trucks (Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc) are built with wider front track widths. When you turn, the rear tires cut inside the arc that the front tires travel...staggering the widths offsets some of that.
