Dang, that Mary can drive. I seen her drive today, probably the best driver there. :)

Way to go Mary!!

Awesome day - lots of cool cars and great drivers. The weather was nearly perfect and the track was a ton of fun. Woo Hoo!

Mary IS the best driver that was there..

Heck, she ran a 29.2... yikes!

She deserved the win 100%

Mary is the cool smooth one behind the wheel. The 70 DSE Camaro is a car that is locked down, it looks like it would stick on ice.

Steve don't feel bad that Mary is quicker than you in your own car, for she is a professional and you are just a magazine guy. :poke:

I sat with David "Mr. Fast" Pozzi for four different runs in Mary's Camaro.

Some memorable quotes while riding shotgun from David...
"I like to use the throttle..."
"Sh*t!"
"We're in the marbles!"
"I didn't even use the brake that time..."
"Maybe Mary won't notice us driving her car...? Good, she didn't see us, let's go again."

My word can that (mad)man drive. I learned sooo much just by observing and asking questions about their car and it's setup. David was able to get down into the 30's with the Camaro. I'd like to think it's because I was there... Yep.

He's a wealth of knowledge. I want to go track racing with him, soak him up like a sponge.

Each time I tried to get a run in with Mary she kept getting shanghai'd into other cars. Next time Mary... next time for sure!

Ty, was our man at the event this time, and he's been sending me the photos and info to post up on the web (I'm back home in Indiana).

He's got some video coming home with him today that we should have up no later than tomorrow...

Until then, I posted a few more photos on our site of some cars at the show:

Also, Kirk Sawyer 1962 Belair was the winner of the "Low Smooth and Cool" award that we (Air Ride Technologies) sponsors:

I'm guessing that they took them down to tweak them a bit. I know that my time shown was lower than my best (although I was thrilled to be in 4th behind Steve and Mary at 1st and 2nd respectively) so maybe they are trying to get an updated list.

the times i had were directly from goodguys, but after talking to a few people and watching some video they were wrong, working on getting the correct times.

Thanks for the video Pat!!!!

This is my first lap. I thought I killed a cone and was dragging it around. That's why I slowed down near the end of the second lap.

NEVER slow down. Cones are collateral damage and easily replaceable.

I guess PHR was there with their cars this time, but I never saw them, not even at the Air Ride booth. Did anyone see them run the "G28?" If so, how did it do? I thought maybe it wouldn't be allowed in given that it was post-'72.

mpozzi

Johnny had G28 at the Air Ride booth getting some belts installed. Liz ran a couple runs in her Camaro and did very well. She had the BFG R1's (R-comps) so had to run Exhibition as they were well below the 180 treadwear limit. I gave Liz a ride and she appeared to have fun. It wasn't my fastest run but one of my more artistic. Getting into the off-line marbles has Plan B happening NOW and we turned the Autocross into a Drift event.

i was at the show, it was awesome to see an autocross event at a car show.

did anyone notice the horrible handling shelby clone mustang. It had TCP suspension all the way around. It had a really high ride height.

If i was TCP i would ask him not to drive his car there.

it had so much body roll i thought it was going to tip over. haha. it was sad to see such good engineered products be tuned so poorly.

Falcon and others,

There were a lot of first timers at this Good Guys autocross and many haven't a clue (nor should they ...) how to set up a car for this sport. With some development, this Mustang can probably do a decent job getting around the cones and the owner probably learned a bunch about his car. I'm sure he's probably made some adjustments if it was as bad as you say it looked ... and you have to start somewhere.

I wasn't really paying much attention to the car so can't comment per se. And I also give the owner a lot of kudos for coming out there and having some fun with the car. Who knows as this may be the first outing with a brand new suspension? TCP suspension is good and changes can be made.

Note to those who are struggling at autocross ... don't give up and ask questions about driving and set-up of those more experienced. Lots of us will ride shotgun but require an invitation into the passenger seat. We're all out there to have fun and build the Good Guys Autocross into something that more want to try. Unless you can offer sound solutions, slamming someone and/or their car on a public forum isn't cool ...

Cheers,
Mary Pozzi

Hi Poorman,

Moved your post to Suspensions as it will get a lot more traffic there. More good advice, too ...

Hope you get your car handling good and check there for updates.

It was my first time trying the autox at Del Mar and I can say that everyone was so helpful in offering suggestions, tips and hints. I know I looked pretty squirrly out there, but nevertheless I had a ton of fun and now I'm hooked on autox. I'm already working on upgrading my steering box and brakes because those two things seemed to be my biggest issues with getting around the track. But the way I look at it it's an evolving thing with this sport. You practice, you make adjustments, add new parts, replace parts and just keep trying to shave some seconds off your time. All in all it's a lot fun and I met a lot of very cool people my first time out and I plan on getting back out there very soon.
