Some of you know me from lateral-g and camaros.net but for those of you that don't frequent those sites I figured it was time to post over here as well.

My car was stock and in fairly good condition, the madness started when I decided to swap the stock M21 for a TKO, Weeks later it was disc brakes, a month later it was the engine.... you get the picture.
I stumbled across the pro-touring community by chance and instantly fell in love with the look and performance these builds offered.

After a year of wrenching in my spare time (which isn't much) I decided to seek the help of a professional shop to finish the car. I called Rodger with Ironworks Speed and Kustoms in Bakersfield California. Rodger's company specializes in trick metal fabrication, the kind of fabrication needed to stuff 15 lbs of custom parts in a 5lb box.

On Aug. 21st, Rodger made the 580 mile round trip from Bakersfield to Concord to meet with me and pick up my car.

First things first... get the car to sit right.

My biggest regret about giving my car to Rodger is the timing. I should have done it last year. Completion of my car should be early Jan.

Rodger is providing:

Installation of the LS2 and T56
Suspension
Exhaust
Pro- Charger
Intercooler
Wiring
Custom dash with gauges
Custom body mods
Classic auto air
Mini tubs
willwood brake system
hydro boost
brake plumbing
sub frame connectors
power windows
tinted glass
Synsiter serpentine system
Custom plumping
Ricks tank, fuel system
wheels: HRE 893's
Tires: BFG

I know I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff so hopefully Rodger will chime in and give you guys the scoop on the killer stuff he is doing.

Here is a pic of the modified body to get the exhaust off the ground:

Gotcha...Who doesn't like vent windows? People probably don't like the car because its not a 1969. 1967 camaros never get any respect.

My point exactly.

There are tons of guys building PT 69's and if you frequent camaros.net you find the preferred 1st gen is the 69.

I have to admit the front valance and grill does look cool on a 69 but RS 67 can look just as good.

very cool start. I had no idea so many people were modifying their floors to run traditional dual mufflers without them hanging down. Makes me think I should consider it for my TA since I really don't plan to keep the back seat.

very nice I have vent windows on my 68 GTO ;-) they are nice actually

btw what the heck is up with the extremely long wheel studs on the front wheels?

ironworks
10-04-2008, 06:30 AM
They are ARP wheel studs in the front hubs. ATS offers that as an option on their spindles.

very cool start. I had no idea so many people were modifying their floors to run traditional dual mufflers without them hanging down. Makes me think I should consider it for my TA since I really don't plan to keep the back seat.

Two considerations when doing this; back seat and heat from the exhaust.

We may put a separate piece of aluminum between the muffler and the floor to dissipate the heat. The pipes will be ceramic coated which will take most of the problem away.

The interior will be a custom combination of Recaro with custom stitching so the floor wont be a problem. If soomeone was using stock interior a couple adjustments would necessary but nothing too hard too handel

Thank for the compliments,

Rich

The pipes and mufflers would hang too low without the floor board modifications.
A lot of great builds with tons of modifications have little to no thought about hiding the exhaust system from view. When you sit this low you have tuck the exhaust.... besides, who wants to see header pipes and mufflers hanging below the line body line view?

A hockey stripe doesn't belong on a '67! It should be a bumble bee stripe.

I like them better myself as they are more simple. Same goes for 67-68 Camaro styling overall vs. the 69s.

My car came from the factory with stripes. RS/SS.

I never liked the bumble bee stripe. To me the bumble bee stripe shouts 10 BOLT!

Wait, your RS/SS came from the factory wtih Z28 stripes?

I believe you are mistaken. It would have the bumble bee stripe. And, what does the strip have to with the rearend?

The bumble stgipe was offered in 1967 and 1968 (Later in the '68 model year it became the stripe that extended down the side) and only 1969 had the "hockey stripes".

Only Z28s came with deck stripes with one exception; the 1969 Indy Pace Cars.

Very nice. Brings back memories back in the day of cruising with the vent window cranked open to get a breeze. Sigh.

You may be right but I always thought the 67 RS/SS came with stripes over the rear tail?

I know they didn't go over the front hood but I've always thought the rear of the car had them.

You learn something new everyday.

As far as adding a bumble bee stripe go's, I just never liked it.
maybe that's why everyone adds the Z28 stripes to the car later?

I think you are spot-on as to why everyone does deck stripes, but this is the exact reason why the bumble stripe is so cool. It's original to what the car had from the factory and not overly popular or flashy. It's just my opinion that it's a simplistic period stripe. I would do it or none at all.

My first Camaro had deck stripes 20 years ago, and since then, I can't imagine how many have been laid down on any and every Camaro that someone re-painted since then. I almost painted the car "IROC blue" with silver stripes but I changed my mind at the last minute and went with original Nantucket blue (a light blue metallic, almost a grandma color) with traditional white stripes. I was and am so glad that I did that. It's still a classic look. The really custom look then was to paint your car aqua with a pink liquid splash down the side.:screwy:

I am 100% onbaord with eveything you are doing to your car. Just take a few weeks to think about the bumble bee stripe.

I wish I could find a photo of an RS/SS in silver with the bumble bee stripe to show you, but when you think about it, that means it is not common! (AKA cool). It seems to really bring the focus to the RS treatment at the front of the car while also shortening the look of the car making it more aggressive in its stance.

So, I'll just leave you with this:

This happened just a few days ago here so I'll just say it again, it's your car, do whatever you like. The BB stripe does look cool but the way it ends has always been wrong and it may not be done but I've seen plenty of them on 67/68s at Goodguys. How often do you see a stripe that was never on the car? Go for it if you like it. I think it'll look awesome. Also, I don't have this drawing on my site but here is a link to my deviantart page with a 67 for ya. http://cityofthesouth.deviantart.com/art/Brotherly-Camaro-Collab-45955406

I love the paint scheme that's on the car now. It think it would stand out from a sea of "some shade of silver or grey" PT camaros that are out there. I'm diggin an idea of the car with all the mods, and the current paint scheme, vinyl top and all. :smoke:
