Try to piece together my own 13" front brake setup for my 70' Malibu. I've getting 13" C4 rotors and I noticed the Cobra calipers are identical to Baer 13 touring calipers but I can't get a good look at the Baer Baskets to see if they are the same. The reason I ask is that I can get brand new Cobra calipers/baskets for 180$ a PAIR and I'm sure I can find a pattern for the drum spindle -to- baer caliper brakets. Anyone have a close up picture of the baer baskets? or can someone measure the center-to-center on the bolt holes?

The Gran Sport, ZR1 and big brake (13") option cars had PBR calipers. The Black Gran Sport ones are cool. Last time I priced them they were $90 with baskets?
they are the same. baer uses PBR calipers for their kits. the biggest thing isnt making the caliper its adapting it to your car and thats what baer does. i put ZR1 front brakes on a customers 94 vette using factory parts. didnt cost much at all. i then installed a Baer track kit on an earlier C4. only difference was an adapter plate used to mount the caliper to that particular spindle and it was a few $100 more since it said Baer on it. everything else was the same. oh well the baer rotors were thicker walled compared to the Delco rotors we used. thats a plus.

I believe the C4 has 14 mm bolts for the abutments and the cobra has 12 mm. If you get rebuilt calipers loaded with abutments from an auto supply place ( and the ones I returned were Cardone) they were cobra items. Same function but not exactly identical. I had a set side by side. This came about because I had a C4 sent in to be rebuilt and the cobra ones came back!

If you go the Cobra route, stick with the '99+ units as they feature slightly bigger pistons. I have the 13" Cobra setup on my '00 GT.

I've got the 99+ cobra PBR 13" setup on my 96' thunderbird also, hauls the 3900lb car down VERY quick (stock brakes didn't have enough power to lock the front wheels up with 255/45r17 rubber), figured they would be a good match for my 70' Malibu also. So far its looking like a cheap front brake upgrade, 200$ shipped for black powder coated PBR cobra's with baskets, 40$ for brake lines, and 65$ for 13" C4 rotors. That just leave Brakets (my new plasma cutter shows up this week :) ) , master cylinder, and a junkyard run to find a 93-97 camaro rear brake setup.
