Anyong know anything about home washing machines?

Somehow ours is getting oil/grease into the drum with the clothes. Smells like gear lube. And of course getting on the clothes.

It sounds like the seal in the transmission is gone. Some machines also use oil filled pumps and it could be that.

I assume it's a top loader? How old is it?

If it's the transmission seal and it's not an old machine you can probably remove the agitator, refill it with oil and replace the seal.

It is one that the dryer & washer are all one piece stacked on the other. Washer is top loader & around 12/13 years old. So if I have to replace it, I have to replace both.

Doh! Try a Google search with the washer make and model number. My bet is it's a $50 repair.

I just took part of the tub/agitator apart & it is all over the inside of the agitator. Which part do you think it is? From the solid black part up is all inside the tub.

Is the solid black part #26?

Do you have a list of these numbers?

Yes solid black piece is #26, I assume it seals between the transmission housing & the tub. So I don't think it is there, gotta be #4, (seal upper lip).

4 and 26 are both seals. I would change them both but that's me. I will keep reading up.

I agree with ya, if I take it apart that far I would replace both, but my thought is if 26 is leaking, there would be water all over the inside bottom of the washer.

True but, it looks like 26 has two parts or is very tall? If the top is above the water level it might not drain the water into it?

OK now that I look a little more, I think seal 26 stayed with the agitator when I took it off, & may be where it is leaking.

OK now I don't think seal 26 is in the agitator. I guess I have to take the whole thing apart. FART!
