Hello Pro-Touring,

We have been working over time to bring out new products and we are going to make our first show as a company. We started HoodPins.net as members of this forum looking for something different in a hood pin. You, on this forum helped us with your advice and support. So I hope to meet all of you that will be attending the Columbus Good Guys show.

We teamed up with Jason Rushforth and designed a hood pin around one of his wheel designs and we will be showing it off at the show. If your planning on being at Columbus this weekend look us up!

Here is a peek at the new design and we have others on the way.

We have another version called the Six shooter. We will only have displays of these at the show. I will offer a 10% discount to the members of this forum plus no shipping charge at the show. This will only apply to parts I have on hand. I will offer the 10% discount for the Six shooter and the Sharp shooter, but they will have to ship from my shop about 2 weeks after the show.

That black sharp shooter is sweet!

Is it safe (or stupid) to run the original auto-latch pins on a hood and forego the original hood latch mechanism entirely?

Yes it is safe to use the auto-latch pins without the original hood latch. They also come with a secondary clip for extra added piece of mind.

I presented this to Roush Performance, I have a version that looks like this for the original and could make the locking the same way. I have a company making die cut 3m adhesive for them, will be about 2 ~ 3 weeks for the 3m product.

Ron, on your site it shows a pic of the original pin style in black with the black pin and clip - but on the order page it shows the pin and clip in silver. Can I get a black pin and clip like the pic shown in the gallery?

Hi Tony,

I have experimented with several different means of coating the pin and clip, but to date I have not found a coating or plating that is durable enough. The clip is steel and spring steel and flexing the spring could cause the plating to come off. The hood will vibrate and this will wear the plating off and lastly the hood moves side to side and will drag on the pins as you open and close the hood. and the last thing you want on your pride and joy is a bright aluminum scrape on the black pin sticking through the hood.

I'm still working on a solution as I do want to offer this version, but have not come up with one yet. I'm looking into a method used on hand guns that I'm told is real durable.

Another approach would be to have a guide under the hood that would allow the pin to hit the hood but not damage the finish.

I'm stoked to see the hoodpin sketches come to life so quickly and want to thank Ron for inviting me to take part in his company.

Glad people like the new design and hope to see it on some cars soon.

Can't wait to see the new pins and all the other P-T.com folks in Columbus!

That is referred to as "bluing" (sp?). Only can be done to steel as far as I know.

One of my customers suggested a process called Roguard. I spoke to them today and they could only suggest powder coating and or Anodizing.

I'll do the powder coating and see how durable it is if I feel it will hold up I'll start making the parts with a powder coat finish.

I'll experiment here in the next few weeks after GG Columbus.

Tried that! Not sure that the hard anodize was anymore durable than the powder coat. The other problem is the clip is steel and can not be anodized. I'll keep working with it and hope to come up with a solution that will be durable and long lasting.

Thanks for the advice...

Thanks for the advice...Chrome or nickel the clip. About the only thing that would not be affected or easily fixed would be a brushed finish. Scratch it and just re-scotch brite it.
