I am looking into minitubbing my Camaro, I do things a$$-backwards alot and the car is already painted and I am really trying to get better at welding as well so I can do this in the garage at home. I wanted to see from the people that have done it in their garage what have been their experiences. I have watched the DSE Video on it, but I am fairly new to welding in general and I also want to go to the Airbar while I am doing this as well. I want it low, so I know I have to do some mods to get the exhaust to run out the back too.

But as far as minitubbing, thoughts? Ideas? I know the welds don't have to look perfect but I would like them to be somewhat presentable.... As far as mods to the back seat, pretty straight forward as well?

Do not worry about the car being in its present state. I have never approached this type of project and I am just taking my time. The DVD is okay but here is some info for you.

Things to note...
-Be careful as you cut the trunk towards the rear as you measure the cut points taper it in as you get to the back of the tub...(has potencial of a big gap)
-Stay tight to the shock mount on the cut side (there is a 3 fold of trunk, frame and floor that is a PITA)
-clean the crap out of everything I am very new to welding and the welds are good.
Here are some pics that may help

If you done have a welder this was $250 used and works great

I'm in the same boat, learning welding so I can mini-tub my car myself. Going with a G-Bar as well.

Just ground off the undercoating on the inner fenders today to where I can see the spot welds. Going to be a interesting long process.

David - those pictures are really helpful, thanks!

Here is another link I found recently (SteveN):

What is interesting about this set is he reinforces the rear frame rails on the inboard and under sides.

Gave me some good ideas :)
