I am looking for some input from those who have built custom steering shafts. I have a C5 corvette front cradle in a '64 fleetside Chevy truck and need to build a shaft from the rack all the way into the cab. All the U-joints I found for sale have 'off road use only' warnings with them, is that warning indicating a cheap joint or just a release of liability? Should I look for splined shaft or D shape? Any tips, tricks or links that anyone has would be appreciated!

Does that include these guys http://ww2.borgeson.com/ or these http://www.ididitinc.com/ ? Their stuff gets used on the road every day, so if it has a warning I'd say it's for liability purposes.

Don't forget these guys http://www.flamingriver.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=85/home_id=85/mode=cat/cat85.htm

Good quality, a little spendy but.......it is your safety at stake.
Also, make sure your new shaft is of the telescoping variety. In the event of a severe front impact, a solid shaft could push the steering column right into you, or through you. Ouch!

Please take a pic if you can. I have a 64 C10 too and would love to see how you addapted the C5 front end into the C10 frame.

Borgeson is good. They all have the same setup for support bearings which I don't like, they are too loose, buy rod ends that have a .750 hole instead of the .755 for the actual supports. I am making changes to my car just so I don't have extra joints an support bearings. It looked Mickey Mouse to me. I do have some new stainless joints and splined shaft that will be for sale as soon as I fix the problem. DD shaft is easier to do but the spline looks better to me.

Thanks for the response guys, that was what I was after.
vp23271, I can get some pictures of the cradle and what I had to modify on the frame. I came to the point of needing to get the steering shaft through the frame, I need to order some parts before continuing.

I used a 3/4" DD shaft for the C5 subframe setup in my Camaro. I used Flaming River billet u-joints with one of them being the "vibration damper" type. I did not use a collapsible shaft, but I have been thinking about changing to one for safety reasons as stated above.
