I am planning to narrow the rear axle in my Caprice. How much wheel to frame and wheel to fender lip clearance is needed in a street driven car with a stock 4 link coil spring suspension. I have stiffer/ lower springs. Thanks!!

i cant fit my finger between mine, but it has rubbed a few times, but not enough to wear on the tire.

I like to run my stuff at least a 1/2" but if you can't 3/8" outer and as much as you possible can inside but a minimum of 1/2" .

I guess with cutting it as close as I am planning I will get a little more detailed. I can get about 3/8" clearance from the tire buldge to the frame. The part of the frame that is close to the tire is just about exactly horizontal with the axle of the wheel, meaning the 3:00 and 9:00 positions of the tire. The inner fender actually has about 3/4" clearance with the upper half of the tire. With the geometry of body roll, what part part of this equation needs the most clearence?

the most room to spare would be between the 10 and 2 positions. As you go over a bump or an uneven surface the suspension will push the tire up and in.

Depending on your locating device everything eles can be close. 3/4" is close here.

Thanks,
The 3/4" at the fenderwell can always be "massaged" if neeed. The 3/8" I have at the frame is the close part, and that is with trimming the heck out of the outer wheel well lip to give me 3/8 " there too.
The locating device is the stock 4 point control arms with new bushings.
