Always been curious on this...This car has the HD suspension package (73 SS) and these upper shock "extension" mounts look like ones that come from Mr. Gasket.

Question is...Are they stock for the HD package or add ons from a time gone by? Does the shock just attach to the mounting holes with no "adapter"

Seems that "way back when" this car would always "bottom out" when there was a person in the rear seat...well I guess it would if the shock was already compressed 2 1/4 inches!!

I'm installing my new bilsteins now...the length seems correct to just bolt up to the holes in the inner fender area.

Sorry for the stupid question...

Jim

those where added on. Most likely to make up for extended shackles to compensate for sagging springs. Do you have stock rear shackles?

HD usually mean't more leafs and stiffer shocks. No such thing as stupid questions. Never be afraid to ask.

Good call Mr. QUick. I just started installing the new Hotchkis springs in the rear and the shackles that were on the car were appx an inch longer. Not the Ghetto hangin down a mile kind. I love seeing those on Jeeps...

Talked to my parents who bought the car in 74 and they had installed air shocks many moons ago. I bet those extensions were added then...had to get some more room for the "L60's" I guess! ha ha ha

Also found some rubber pieces in between the coils on the front. No wonder this thing rode like a buckboard.

Just got the tracking from ScandC for my new lower BJ's and outer tie rod ends...already have the arms and tall uppers. Can't wait to get the suspension done this coming week and see how she sits.

Just putting the Hotchkis rear springs and correct shackles on...lowered the top of the rear fender well 2 1/2 inches...

Now for brakes and new "shoes"....

Here is a before and after pic of the rear.

What are your wheel and tire plans?

Not sure...really like to go old skool with VWW v40's 17x8 front and 17x9.5 rear.

Been in contact with Jason Rushforth...and he thinks that an 18 would look hot...I like the Rushforth concept 1's. Like to have those with a blacked out center.

His wheels are the Sh*^!

You have any ideas?
