Home made custom door panels. Help

I want to do custom Panels but need to know some sources for materials. Also what sort of board is used in the construction of the panel. Ive been told Water proof card board but I cant find a source.
Strand board I think its called. Any help would be greatly appretiated.

aside from that 1/8 inch masonite works great as a base. then stack layers of foam. a electric carving knife and D/A sander is your friend.

basicly all those doorpanels are based on the masonite & foam idea, basicly you get some masonite (home depot.) some "extreme velcro" (also home depot) and high density foam (local fabric store) and some spray contact glue. make a cardboard template of the size door panel you need. transfer that to the masonite. spray with glue. coat with layers of foam, with shapes you design. to shape the foam, use an electric carving knife to get the general shape, then sand with a sander to fine tune.


when the final shape is done, spray with glue and press on the fabric of choice, working from the middle out, wrapping the sides by at least a 1/4 inch. if you want pulls or armrests, head to the junk yard and find some, paint to match.

use the extreme velcro to lock the panel on the door, or go all out and use factory clips. the door pull (armrest,) has screws that also will anchor the panel on.

I have found that the fiberglass bathroom panels will work the same as the masonite, and will eliminate the possibilities that the masonite will start to delaminate if moisture and humidity are high in its lifetime.

Don't get me wrong, the masonite does a fine job but I have torn out a lot of different materials over the years and masonite just doesn't hold up as well as the fiberglass or plastics will.

Below is a link to how I made very simple door panels for my Mustang. I used Keyston Bros (http://www.keystonbros.com/index2.html) to source all the materials. Keep in mind it was my first attempt ever at interior stuff and I wanted them to be very basic. Also, they sell "chip board" which can be used as a backing material.
