what year must a car/truck be to be exempt from emissions? someone told me my 86 would be exempt but i haven't heard this before. i only ask because i need exhaust to pass TX inspection, currently dual straight pipe. If i need cat converters then that's another couple hundred. if i don't need them then i can save a few bucks by only needing mufflers. this will be a daily driver...eventually.

thanks

You'll have to check with your local emissions officials. Federally, it is illegal to remove or alter the emissions equipment, but as there are no federal test stations, you will need to find out what your locality requires. Some places have a rolling year cut off (ie: 25yrs or older) while others have a set year of cut off (in MD it was '76 fo the longest time).
