Right now i have a 84 camaro..Stockblock 355 2 bolt mains. arp main studs, Cat Forged rods, Cat forged Crank, TRW forged 9.1 pistons, ported aluminum dart pro 1 heads, dart cool can intake, 750 Holley DP.
1 5/8 headers, and a PS-1C Procharger, good balancer, 1.65 harland sharp roller rockers and stud gurdals, cam has .523/.544 lift and 224/234 duration at 112 centerline (t56 6 speed and 373 gears)

The car ran a best time last year of 11.70 on drag radials at 122mph in the 1/4mile at only 6psi of boost.. (car weighs 3800+lbs with driver and sterio) i toped out in 4th gear and had to use 5th gear going threw traps!

I just installed 3.73 gears and a 1/4 inch smaller pulley.. now at 8-9psi.. (700 estimated HP with open headers)

I am contimplateing adding a large intercooler and jumping to 12-15psi..(currently no intercooler)

The car is already sick fast.. when i take anyone for a ride, they cannot believe how fast it is while being well manared on the street!

How much further would you take this motor with its stock block??

I know one way to find out how much it will take.

Your done, LOL! We have built some bombs, 2 bolt, O Rods, Lightweight crapola, spray the snizitz out of them and never broke them. But I am not advising this.

Frank... so your saying i should stop before adding the intercooler and more boost?

LOL, Can you afford to scatter it? if so, let's see what it will hold.

Honestly, I'd be more worried about the CAT rods & crank than the block. The TRW pistons should live fine but they are a bit on the heavy side.

I've been running 15psi on a stock 4-bolt 010 block (not filled) for a while now and I'm not terribly worried about it. Things looked great last time I had it apart (aside from all the bearings which were trashed by my chewed up distributor gear.) I would feel better with a Dart block, but so far no complaints on the stocker. When I first got the block I did check it over thoroughly for defects and for cylinder wall thickness and it's only .020 over.

what kind of HP are you pushing with your SBC blown353?

Not sure. The only approximation I have is that I will pull away from a friends lightly modded CBR600RR from a 70mph start, he usually traps about 127 at the strip. Last time I weighed it my car is 3820# with me in it. My hunch is somewhere in the 625rwhp range.

Need to chassis dyno it one of these days, but I'm 2 for 2 in that department, last two chassis dyno appointments I've made I broke the car the day before the appointments (blew up the 700R4 for the 1st time, then lunched the distributor gear for the 2nd.)

Till the RODS fall out.

When it's broke get a newe block

I'd push the block about ten feet before I'd have to stop and catch my breath. Sorry couldn't resist.

A kid around here is running a vary similiar set-up as you and his motor has been together for about two years without any problems.

Shmoov,
Aren't you running a stock GM block? I'm being told not to run a stock 4-bolt GM block on the t/t set up I'm about to build. I'm shooting for about 600-650 fwhp on 10-12 psi boost with GN turbos. My build will be very similar to your first set up except I'm fuel injecting my car.

That P1SC would be a far cry to make 700HP, but anyhow.....the CAT stuff is your limiting factor, not the block.

The block will prob take 700HP reliably without the mains being pushed around much. of course this is with proper machinework & fastener hardware.

Yes I am running a stock block, 4 bolt, with a cheap Scat crank, cheap Eagle rods and decent forged Speed Pro Blower pistons.
The first engine was a 2 bolt, cast crank, stock rods (AND BOLTS!), Badger brand (cheapest I could buy) hyper pistons and a loose (read>LOOOOOSE!) hone job on the block. It lasted 17,000+miles, 2 1/2 years and LOTS of beating on it. It made 475hp/575tq at the wheels belching out black smoke from being so rich. Heck, it would not even read on the wideband on the dyno it was so rich! So there was definately more in it.
The main thing to remember, is to stay out of detonation and if it is not running right, get your foot out of it!!!:hammer: It will not "fix itself"!!! LOL
Good luck!
