On my '70 Barracuda the rear tailights have separate bezels that slide in from the outside of the tailpan and then the taillight assembly attaches to the bezel from the inside. What I wanted to do is permamently mount the bezels and smooth them to the tailpan so there is no seam there anymore. The bezels are potmetal.

Is it possible to weld the potmetal to the sheetmetal ??

My other idea was to adhesive bond the bezel in place and then use Metal to Metal or Kitty Hair to fill the seam. I'm worried that over time the seam will flex and the paint will crack etc.

IIRC potmetal is the hotdog/bologna of metals..they have a varying quantities of different metals and a low melting point so welding is difficult. I think what resto places do is strip them, coat with copper and then use solder to fill in pits, etc.

This stuff looks interesting though..

yeah its more like soldering pot metal. I'd go with a cold epoxy especially with rare parts that might be damaged. Hey do you have any picturs of the Cuda? Like to see what your working with.

Couldn't you just go old school and lead the seams?

There are pix on my Yahoo page after it got back from mediablasting.

I hadnt thought about the lead. Not a bad idea but its getting really hard to find people that have the skills to use lead. Hardly anyone uses it anymore.

Ned, I may be able to put you in touch with someone local. Gene (who used to own Kustom Kurves up in Lodi) did a bang-up job re-leading the decklid on my Dad's Ferrari 308 about 10 years ago when the factory leading cracked. Really talented guy. We did have to round up the lead and beeswax for him though.

Leadwork is really easy, and it's alot more forgiving than plastic filler. The only downside is it is expensive. If you're handy, http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=1679&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=516&iSubCat=519&iProductID=1679
watch the video that comes with the kit. You can do it with a propane torch, but it is a little harder to control the heat.

just a thought, pull a mold off them, make them in fiberglass and mold them in?
