I bought from Speedway Motors a magnetic caster/camber gauge that centers on the hub. It's a pretty nice gauge but the instructions aren't clear. To set caster, it says to turn the wheel 20* left, level the gauge, then take a measurement. It then says to turn the wheel back to 20* the opposite way-for a total of 40*. This seems to indicate that I'm only taking a reading when the tire is turned left 20*, then back to the straight position (and then on the right side also). What about turning the wheel to the right 20* and take a reading? Why only measure when the wheel is turned outward? Thanks.

Seems clear to me. Turn in 20 degrees, zero guage. Turn back to center. Turn out 20 degrees. Count the number of turns on the dial to get back to zero. Multiply number of turns by 1.5.

That's an older gauge and my directions are different but thanks for pulling that up. I called the dudes at Speedway and the measurement I'm looking for regarding caster is the tire turned outward. So why would I need to take a reading when the wheel is turned inward?

Caster is calculated using the difference in camber between 20* out and 20* in.
