the only way i can see putting a rack in monte is to cut the k-member out so you would have a clear shot to the rack..

lately i have been looking at the new camaro subframe, they have great geometry, and would save at least 200 lbs. it looks like i would have to cut the old frame off some where around the fire wall. i am looking for another car to do this on, don't want to mess with my driver.. 1988 monte 350 sbc roller motor, started out as a zz430, but i did not like the lazy cam so put in a howards 229/229 duration with 480"/480" lsa is 108, 1.55 ROLLER ROCKER ON EX 1.6 ROLLER ROCKERS ON THE INTAKE, woke that motor up. now i am putting a comp cam xr282hr hydraulic roller 230/236 duration .050 with 510"/520" lift with a 108 lsa. cost me 20.00 to have comp grind this at 108 instead of the 110 lsa. the 110 lsa just didn't have a lot of rump. Not to ruffle your feathers, but the first generation Dodge Dakota (87-96) front suspension is getting a lot of action in the hot rodding community.

Might be a player.

Just asking what a rack or new suspension will gain you? Is this a track only car? What is the end use? If this is a street car you would be much farther ahead to simply upgrade the current setup. A little lowering, poly bushings, bigger bars and some good shocks will work wonders on those cars, without tearing it up. :)

If you're intent on doing this (and I think you can get alot of improvement using tall balls, a Jeep or Lee steering box), you may want to approach it a little differently.

Been jonesin' for my old elCamino, which i never got done. Bought a 77 Camaro subframe on eBay because, well because I think I was drinkin' that night.

Anyway, my aptly named 'Stupid Plan' is to weld up frame using square tube and that subframe so's it fits uner the G body elCamino. Just a couple tuning pieces and I have a decent front suspension, tall spindles, etc. You know, after typing it out, it sounds like I might still be drinkin'

Anyway, if you are intent on doing this, there are alternatives. Stupid Plan might have a 3 link rear, narrowed frame section for some big tires. Go to Cali or Arizona- pick up a non-runner that's ugly and solid, toss the motor and ugly dash (maybe do something like the dash from a 69(?) Camaro like they did on Overaulin')

Or I may just go back to drinkin'. It costs a lot less

my monte has been lowered with 2" dropped spindles, 2" umi lowering springs in the rear, new bushings (that helped a lot), 1 1/4" sway bar in front, umi rear sway bar in rear (attached to rear end and frame), battery in trunk, a 90 camaro center link shortened up 1", this gave me idler and pitman arm with a 6 degree pointing out, (got rid of the toe out in turns, 1/8" toeout at 15 degree tire angle, when i did the math on the angles i used a little reverse ackermann (the circle track guys have used this forever) now my tie rods are parallel with the ground, helped the bumpsteer a lot, i have 700 pound springs in the front (really helps bumpsteer, will try 600 pounders this year, those 700's are a rough ride. 295/50 r15 on rear, 235/60 r15 front for my stagger, no push and i am not loose now. 3000 pounds, still 300 pounds heavy on front.138105138106

forgot, this is my road race car, one racing seat, no heat or air, carbon fiber driveshaft, 1/2" longer upper and lower ball joints. the g bodies have +5.3 degrees toe out in a 15 degree tire angle, that is a lot of scuff. my car with the reverse ackermann has a 1/4 degree toe out in a 15 degree turn, 0 in a ten degree tire angle. i thought is was a genius figuring this out, but come to find out the circle track guys have been doing this forever. run with 1/8 degree toe out, and 1.5 degree negitive camber.138107138108138108138573

the pic with the rear shock i moved the shock out to the hole i drilled more to the inside, gave me a lot nicer shock angle, and moved it away from the tire. you have to use some shims to help out the binding, but it is a lot better than stock. and cheep.138110138568
