Peter

Good to know Im not the only one!
Answering some of your questions:
-How far along? I will say that 4-6 months to finish the truck
-Power steering? I plan to use a 03 Cobra
-Trans controller? Modified OEM PCM from a 12 mustang

I want to finish the body and Frame along with mounting the engine and tranny.
Then in a month or so take it to CPR shop in San Diego to install the turbo, fuel system, custom exhaust and tune the PCM.

Can you send me pics of yours to my email [email protected]?
Did you go with the Performance Automatic 4R70W?

Power steering will be the ford racing bracket in place of the A/C compressor with the cobra pump? What is your steering rack?
I used a simple shift trans controller. Seems easy but is not on the road yet.
I recessed my firewall 2" to drop the sump portion of the oil pan by as much as possible.
My trans was built by a friend of mine. He also altered the tail stock so I can keep my speedo!

To be honest all of the custom mods: steering, A/C, exhaust will be made by the shop.
The owner is a master welder and really knows about restoring classic Cars, he use to work for a shop that build classic american muscle cars.

He specializes in late Model mustangs, last year I went to his shop with a lot of questions regarding my project. He told me that I have nothing to worry he will find a way to install the components or fabricate the parts needed.

I will let you know how it went...

Well, since everything seems to be custom is taking more time. Took this photo today choosing the location of the rear lights...

I put mine up high with custom brackets.. The larger portion of the lamp is the tail light and the smaller portion is the brake light. I then added the LED's in the bed roll hooked up to my brake lights for safety. My truck sits pretty low though. If it was not this low I would have the lights mounted lower.

At last!! Pics of your truck lol.
The full body seems to be pretty solid, I had problems with the bed sides and one running board.
I would like to see your lights at night should look nice.
Please post more pics of your details. Are you going to relocate the gas cap?

I have a couple on my original post 56'F100. I'll see if I can dig up some more to post. My gas cap will be center of the bed. I welded the hole on the side of the body shut. I am looking at a Crafty-B gas cap. Google that guy, pretty cool stuff.

For the tailgate, I want to go old race car inspired. I am thinking about just a more race approach to factory. Maybe just using stainless aircraft cable instead of chain and something like a hood pin with cotter pin to hold it shut. I have a couple of ideas but nothing on paper [or metal!]

I checked the Crafty-B gas cap it looks really nice (classic look). I wanted to use a Shelby cobra gas cap in the he original location but since I had to put the tank under the bed I went with this :

Snug fit for the gas pedal?

Good eye! I will move the brake pedal closer to the steering column.
The problem that I currently have is where to relocate the battery. I'm going to cover the floor with dynamat and put a carpet, and don't want to leave a hole for the battery. :banghead::banghead:

Those are some pretty wide boards for the bed. Are you going to leave a gap between them? They look like they fit tight.

JM10
05-12-2015, 02:06 PM
My guess is that the carpenter didn't leave a gap between them. But since the boards aren't finished there's time to trim them a little.

Peter Mc Mahon

What kind of wood is it? I would leave a minimum 1/8" gap between. I would also finish all 4 sides of the wood to keep the moisture levels balanced.

JM10
05-13-2015, 10:46 AM
Don't know the name of the wood (I will ask). I did some research and there's a gap between each board (picture) , I will follow your advice and tell the carpenter to do it right. Take into consideration that he works on furniture and doors..
As of now I have bigger problems: I bought the front wheels too wide :banghead:

Any updates?

Had some problems with the tune or some sensor gone bad.
The truck was running fine, but when I took it to the sound shop to install the audio system and alarm they disconnected the battery for 2-3 weeks. They had to quick charge the battery to get it running again.

Then all the sudden the truck was staling every 10-15 min and the PCM had some codes.

Long story short the truck is back at the shop (Fat Fenders) hopefully is just some faulty sensor.

I'm just starting to do a build like yours. Few minor diffs, but very close. C4 vette suspension, as I stripped out a junk vette for it. Trying to figure out coyote and 10r80 swap vs LS3 and 6l80 or LT1 and 10l80.. Yes I'm a Chevy guy but love this truck. Hoping to find enough out without a lot of heartache to convince me its easy enough to do a coyote. Any help would be great. My truck is an old barn find, sat for 20yrs. Its is relatively rust free. Hoping to put a new Dan Carpenter bed on it. Most of it I have figured out except for the power plant. Thanks Bob
