We picked this truck up a couple months ago from a guy in Las Vegas. Rust free for the most part just way too original and way too tall. The long bed has to go and so does the color. I guess I'm skirting the edges of "pro touring" with this one because I just gonna slam it with all the good stuff, add huge sway bars and stuff as much rubber in there as I can.

First order of business was chopping down the long bed to slightly more acceptable proportions. I know some of you guys love you long beds they're just not my fav.

83171
At this point I seriously considered "bobbing" the back like the off road guys do. I think it looks cool but would probably kill resale value.

Oh and just a side note: for any of you guys that are thinking of doing this to your truck, do your self a favor and pick up a laser level. It made the task so much easier.

Who needs marker lights? Get rid of 'em.

I love any vehicle that boasts an engine compartment that you can crawl into
83176
Sorry guys no rip snorting LS this time. The 350 came from GM Goodwrench about a year ago according to the previous owner so its getting the spiff treatment and going back in for now.

Here is the bed all put back together minus about 20 inches of real estate
83178
Took 12" out of the frame right under the cab and moved the rear up into its new location

Body and bed back together

Before and after engine bay pics. Like I said before the engine hasn't done anything to deserve retirement quite yet so she went back in with a bit of a mild cam for good measure.

The paint on this one is a quite a bit different from the norm. The idea was a bit of "fotina." I started with a flat black base that was applied with a brush. Don't laugh I'm serious. The second coat is called satin Eden. The idea is to sand through the Eden (olive green) to reveal the flat black brush strokes that the first coat left behind. Eventually a clear coat will cover it all to protect the end result.
83183
83184
At this point you can see the idea. The green is going away little by little and the black is really starting to stand out. All the trim on this truck is either removed or blacked out. The green came out a little bright for my taste. I think the new plan is to tint the clear with a bit of black to hopefully tone it down just a little.
83185
Blacked out grill and front roll pan. Front roll pans for these trucks are tricky. Spend the extra money and go with a reputable manufacturer. The time and effort that they put into their products will save you time and money in this department.

AWESOME.. So in awe of you guys that can do this stuff. Normal person takes that truck, finds a short bed frame and bed and does the swap, the don't go in and simply remove 12" of steel from here and 20" from there!

Love it! Love these trucks!

To be honest, if I had a short bed laying around I would have thrown it on. Cutting it up works and it looks great but you will never have a perfect "factory quality" bed unless you buy the bedsides from a re pop company. But that price tag is tough to swallow. Thanks for the compliment man. I appreciate it.

Got a little ahead of myself. Here are a few more of the engine and engine bay before the re install.

I installed a hidden radio antenna and no longer needed the factory one or the hole that came with it.

Ya I'm sure it wound up in there somewhere, I didn't even notice. There's a build thread on that one in the project updates section. Good eyes bovey!

Bug is fun.

I like the cut of your jib - keep the welders hot.

A couple more updates. Truck is back on its own wheels. Stuffed as much rubber under all four corners as possible without having to modify anything too extensively. Wound up with a 5.5" drop on the front and 7" in the rear. 10" rear wheels and 8" in the front.
83365
83366

Led Tail lights and two 40" led strips under the bed as a third brake light. It looks really cool at night when I hit the brakes, lights up the whole rear under carriage.

Final clear coat is coming soon.

So I have good news and bad new. The good news is the clear is all finished and it came out awesome. The tinted black clear really toned down the green just enough and let the underlying black really pop out. The bad news is its all finished up and time to move on to the next one. I'm going to enjoy it as my daily driver until it sells. Look for it on Ebay if your interested.

Turn out super neat. Normally not a fan of the faux paint, but I like what you did. Also, do you mind sharing your wheel back spacing and tire sizes?

Aftermath Hotrods
10-07-2013, 06:58 PM
Sure man no problem. The rear wheels are 15x10 with 4" back spacing and the fronts are 15x8 with four inch back spacing. Tons of room in the front to turn lock to lock. The rears are pretty tight with 7" of drop. This thing wouldn't make a very good fire wood hauler as it sits but four bolts, two springs and 20 minutes later you have 5" of lift. Just in case any of you guys are interested, the truck went up on the block today. Ebay item number: 190923966502

I watched your auction. I've done ebay for years. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. If you wait 3 weeks you might run the same auction and get so many bids you can't believe it. For every custom vehicle there are only a few buyers. The trick is to find that buyer. People are upset with the shutdown and nervous. Wait until that gets taken care of and you may have way better results.

Definitely industrial backdrop for pictures. A Train track or abandoned brick warehouse would be cool.

I think your right. I thought about that when I started the auction but I think it may have more of an affect then I had anticipated. I have a photo shoot scheduled later this week with a little eye candy to attract attention. I'll post the pics for you guys when I can...

The tires are 295/50-15's in the rear and 255/60-16's in the front. I know that's not exactly "pro touring" but this thing still handles amazing. If it doesn't sell sometime in the near future I'm going to pull the bench and install a couple of buckets, some big brakes and find an auto x.
