View Full Version : Do Shocks Break In?

I assume just as any part with machined moving parts there will be some but how much. I just installed some double adjustable shocks all around at there seems to be a good amount of stiction(static friction). I'm not sure if it even matters but it takes a bit just to get them to stroke on the loosest settings. I was just curious.

The only aftermarket suspension stuff I have dealt with was superbike stuff and it's designed to have the least amount possible from the start and does not break in (at least not noticeably). Is the car stuff the same?

Car shocks have a lot of seal friction, I doubt they will loosen much. The forces they are exposed to are so much higher than a motorcycle there is no comparison. Gas charged shocks require 50 lbs to overcome internal pressure.
