I have a triangulated 4 link from tci in my 65 falcon. The problem i am having is that my housing is hitting the bolt in cross member because the car seems to have to soft of a spring in it. I have the suspension in the highest position and I only have about 1" of travel before it hits the pumpkin. The housing is a fab 9 so it is larger than a standard housing.
What spring rate should I have? The car weighs 3150 with me in it with a full tank of gas.

I have a 3-link in my falcon and I run a 225lb spring. My falcon weighs 2700 lbs without me. 1250 rear weight. 1400lbs with me in the car.

Are you sure the crossmember is in correctly? I started with a TCI crossmeber and cutout the rear bar to clear my housing and 3-link.

ya everything measures out. My spring rate is only 175 I have a 16 gallon fuel tank and the battery in the trunk aswell.

Not sure what TCI designed, but we like to have 3 inches of compression travel on the rear end.

Adding a stiffer spring may hurt ride quality more than help the bottoming out situation you are in now.

May require a call to TCI to as what the minimum compression dimension is.

Remember, the suspension must have room to move!

I called TCI before adjusting my Springs.I believe they said to adjust the coil until it compressed approx 1" with the weight on the wheels.
Hope that sounds right.

Then adjust the ride height with one of the lower coil over mounting positions. Mine is in the middle position.

I'm using a 8.8" with a Ford racing rear axle girdle. I'm going to have some interference with it. I may either go back to the stock cover, modify the cradle crossbar or have some material removed from the top edge of the girdle.

I have just about 3" of sag in the suspension at ride height. Why would tci sell me a kit with this spring rate.
I am disapointed with the service of tci so far

some pictures of the install might help us see the problem

That housing and fill point might be your main issue.

175lb springs sounds about right for a drag car. from the pictures the shocks looks to be sitting at mid stroke. Do you want the car higher?

I would like the car to sit a little higher in the rear. Maybe 1"

Move the shock lower mount bolt to the upper hole and tighten or loosen the spring adjuster as needed?

I have moved the shock to the top position on the lower mount already

In that case I think you are outside the design parameters of the suspension as originally designed.

I think you need a longer shock with a longer spring. If you were to put a longer spring on your current shock it would put it close to fully extended limiting the performance of the car.

First off, that is a badass Falcon you've got. I'd love to read more about it if you've got a build thread somewhere?

I am sorry to hear you haven't been taken care of yet on this. Unless otherwise specified the standard spring rate for this kit is 250#. To add to that we don't offer a 175# spring. Did someone here tell you that's what it was? Based on what? Short of getting the color code off the bototm of the spring it's tough to say for sure just based on pics but they look like 250's. As a basic rule of thumb the spring should be 8" long at ride height. If it is shorter then it needs more spring rate, if it is longer it needs less spring rate.

Here is a list of spring rates we offer. The first three are typically only used on fiberglass street rods.

180
200

Having said all that this is the first I've heard of anyone using a Fabricated housing with our Falcon kit. I'd have to check with Sal and the tech team though to see if they've come across anybody using one.

Please call and talk to Sal about this issue. 800-984-6259

thanks for the reply. when I bought the kit from you guys the salesperson said that you were out of 250 and 200 springs and they were sending softer ones. I measured my spring length at ride height and it is 6 5/8"

That's awesome and that's why I keep dealing with TCI because they take care of their customers. And I have to agree that is a good looking Falcon you have.

I just installed the new springs and the have a length of 7 5/8" at ride height so that should help out a bunch. they feel a lot stiffer thanks again J from TCI
